Dolphins
Habitat
Dolphins live in the vast, twinkling, blue-tinged oceans of planet Earth! They live, travel, and hunt in large groups called pods for their whole lives, and they travel far and fast in search of food. Because dolphins are pretty intelligent mammals, they also play with various objects they find on their journey until they've located their next dinner.
Diet
Because dolphins live in the ocean, they eat fish. Most dolphins eat fish such as mackerels, herring, and cods. Also, some species of dolphin find squid tasty! They also have a very genius hunting tactic. As a pod, the dolphins circle around the school of fish. As the fish squeeze tighter and tighter, a couple dolphins at a time dart in and eat their share. When they're finished, they come back out to circle the fish and others go in to eat until everyone has been fed. Pretty cool, huh?
Description
Dolphins are a unique type of sea mammals. Their bodies are shaped somewhat like a tube, with a 3D semi circle for a head at one end and a tail called a fluke. On the top of this tube is a large deformed triangle type fin called a dorsal fin, and on either side near the body near the bottom of this tube are two triangle-like fins called flippers. The face of the dolphin is pretty blubbery, with a long bottle shaped nose on most species. They have 2 rows of pointed teeth and little beady black eyes that are surprisingly friendly on either side of their heads. Overall, I think they're pretty cute creatures myself!!
Types
Believe it or not, there are actually many different types of dolphins. The most commonly know friendly gray type is the Bottlenose Dolphin.
